What we’re talking about...

Meet the Finance Team!

Welcome to our first addition of ‘Meeting the Team!’

We first start off with the team who combined have the most recruitment experience between them and are also the largest team within Distinct. The finance team cover all qualified roles in finance and accounting right up to Director Level. Claire looks after the interim side of the business and the guys look after the permanent side.

So lets begin…

Question: What is your background?

Claire: I had been in recruitment for a LONG time around London and the Midlands. I’ve also got 3 start-ups under my belt but I’m now back to my roots and recruiting senior interim finance positions.

Ryan: I’ve been working in finance recruitment for 10 years around East Midlands. Spent 7 years of these at a regional firm working most recently as a Regional Manager for them covering the Midlands area. I then joined Distinct in 2016 as a founding member and investor. I love meeting new candidates and understanding what they want from their career and helping them achieve it.

Arran: I joined Macildowie after graduating and stayed for 10 years. Left in 2015 and set up Distinct in 2016.

Alex: Spent 12 months in construction recruitment before deciding to change sectors and making the move into finance recruitment back in 2007. Enjoyed 9 and a half years with the same business significantly growing the finance brand before joining up with the team at Distinct in August 2017.

Ian: I went straight into recruitment after graduating from university. This is my 6th year doing finance recruitment.

Question: What is your favourite song of all time?

Alex: I love music, there’s always music playing in the background in the Alcock house. My mum is a massive Motown fan & I grew up listening to it, so if I had to choose one song it’d be “I can’t help myself” by the Four Tops. It was a BIG song at my wedding as well.

Claire: Ian Brown – F.E.A.R but also anything Hed Kandi related!

Ryan: The Kooks – Naïve. It reminds me of holidays we had at University – this was usually on the CD on the drive or the flight to wherever we were heading.

Question: What is your favourite place in the world?

Alex: Me & my wife love Cornwall. I grew up holidaying around Devon & Cornwall and have some real fond memories of camping trips around Padstow, Croyd & Wooloacombe – I’m really looking forward to creating some of those memories with my own kids.

Ian: That would have to be Gullfoss in Iceland.

Question: If you were a crayon, what colour would you be?

Alex: Purple… my personality is generally a mix of Red & Blue.

Claire: Yellow

Question: If you were having a celebrity dinner party – who would you invite first?

Ryan: Thierry Henry – the best player the premier league has ever seen.

Alex: George Best, I grew up watching Man Utd with my dad and Bestie was a bit of a hero to him. A genius on the pitch and I’m sure he’d have a few stories to tell over dinner.

Question: If you could pick you last meal, what would it be?

Arran: An all you can eat buffet – preferably Pan-Asian.

Claire: Pizza from my wood fired pizza oven.

Ryan & Ian: Steak and chips!

Question: What is your biggest achievement?

Arran: Marrying my wife – I am seriously punching…

Ryan: I moved to France for a year aged 19 and learned to speak the language fluently in the process.

Question: What is the first job you ever had?

Ian: I was a pot washer at Kedleston Golf Club.

Ryan: Argos, doing customer service and working in the warehouses. It’s cold bringing in pallets at 6am in Winter!

Question: What do you love about the discipline you work in?

Ian: Being able to help part and newly qualified accountants progress with their careers within some amazing companies!

Alex: Every business, whether a start-up or a multi-national globally recognised brand, has a need to effectively manage their finances. I love the sheer diversity of the wide range of business I get the opportunity to work with within our Finance brand.

Arran: I love being part of the leadership team that will create the best business to work for in the UK.

Ryan: Having studied several accountancy modules at university I have a keen interest in the job roles I recruit, and also, I like the fact I can see / understand where candidates are wanting to take their careers. Having recruited in this sector for 10 years I’m starting to feel like I finally understand it!

Claire: All the lovely candidates and the team…
