It’s Monday morning. You’ve just stepped through the doors of IVC Brunel Healthcare and you get a warm welcome from Tracey on reception.
It’s your first day as their new Senior Buyer.
You’re excited because they’ve had consistent double-digit year on year growth and continue to reinvest in the business.
Raj, their Head of Procurement, joined last year to develop the procurement function into a strategic value-add operation. You’re there to help.
As he collects you for your induction, he talks you through what your first 3 months will look like, including getting to know the business, your stakeholders’ personalities and needs, suppliers, processes, and opportunities. Plenty of time to start thinking about your strategic sourcing plan, and a welcome relief from being thrown in at the deep end without support.
By week 13 you’ll already be stuck into developing category strategies, maximising supplier relationships, creating and implementing supplier management tools, and setting sourcing strategies. Exactly what you’ve been after.
Oh, and Raj just mentioned their new ERP implementation which will reduce the admin in your role leaving you to focus on what you do best: strategic procurement. Bonus!
It’ll be challenging as it’s a step change for the business, but Raj let you know about this over a coffee before you started, so no surprises there.
You won’t be left on your own to think of every solution either. It’s a supportive team with a mantra of ‘if there’s a problem, we solve it as a team’.

If you’re experienced in ingredients procurement in the FMCG sector, with a bias towards strategic sourcing and category management, we’d love to talk to you. Importation knowledge is a bonus.
If your experience lies in different industries but strategic procurement is your forte, we’d still love to hear from you.
CIPS / part CIPS qualified is desirable, as is a degree in a business related field such as economics.
